Mrs. Edwin Johnson, 56, the former Sybil Hanks Richardson, Janesville, died Saturday evening in a hospital in Pelham, N.Y., following several months' illness. Since 1939 Mr. and Mrs. Johnson and their daughter resided in New York state after having lived in Germany for many years.
Sybil was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Victor P. Richardson, was born in Janesville Nov. 14, 1897. Her father was a manufacturer, had served as mayor of Janesville and was on the board of regents of the University of Wisconsin for several years.
Following graduation from Janesville High School in 1916 Miss Richardson studied voice in New York City and while studying in Germany became a soprano with the Essen Opera Co. Miss Richardson and Edward Johnson, native of Moline, Ill., were married in Essen in 1925. Mr. Johnson, a tenor who sang under the name Eyvind Laholm, was a member of the Stuggart Opera Co., and guest tenor for the Muncih and Berlin Opera Companies.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband; one daughter, Sybil Louise; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Skavlem, Shoemaker, Ontario, Canada, and her twin, Mrs. Donald B. Korst, Hamburg, N.Y.
