Carol (Klemp) Augustine Sainsbury, 82, Janesville, died Sunday surrounded by her family. She was born in Janesville on July 5, 1937, the middle daughter of Eric and Elaine (Kuhnert) Klemp. She graduated from Janesville High School in 1955, and attended Layton School of Arts in Milwaukee, majoring in Commercial Design. Carol married Curtis W. Augustine in Janesville on August 1, 1959, and he preceded her in death on November 16, 1971. On January 7, 1973, she married Herbert L. Sainsbury in Janesville, and he preceded her in death on September 1, 2008. In 2007, Carol survived an aorta dissection and was known by the medical staff as the "Miracle Lady" on the fifth floor at UW Madison. In 1985 she became a member of the American Rebekah Lodge #26 in Janesville and later transferred her membership to the Lake Mason #211 American Rebekah Lodge in Briggsville, WI. She was a member for 35 years and held the positions of The Noble Grand, Vice Grand, Secretary/Treasurer and District Deputy at various times. She was a long time member of the busy bees home makers club in Moundville, WI. Carol's interests were painting in oil, acrylic, and watercolor, ringing hand bells, organ playing, hunting at the family farm, and fishing Muskies at Lake Tomahawk. She earned the title of Esoxlady. She started painting in high school and gradually developed her own style. Carol started taking orders for paintings by word of mouth. She exhibited paintings at local art shows and fundraisers. She had won blue ribbons and merit awards for her work. In 2005 the Moundville United Methodist Church in Endeavor, WI commissioned Carol to paint at 14' x 4' painting of the Last Supper along with tow side paintings of the Nativity and the Resurrection. The paintings are permanently displayed in the church's new community room. Private family services will be held. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
