Marlene M. Meyer, 87, of Beloit, WI, died Friday, February 1, 2019 at Riverside Terrace. She was born July 25, 1931, in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of William and Violet (Urban) Blue. For a part of her childhood she lived on the Canadian Plains (waving to Queen Elizabeth from a Saskatchewan train platform during the 1939 Royal Tour) with the balance on the East Side of Milwaukee. Marlene was a 1949 graduate of Riverside High School, Milwaukee, WI. She married Clayton R. Meyer in Milwaukee, WI. He predeceased her on March 31, 1998. After graduating from High School, Marlene worked in the movie industry at 20th Century Fox where she met Marilyn Monroe. She also worked as a legal and later school secretary. After marrying Clayton in 1963 and moving to Beloit, she worked in the family company, Meyer Inc., handling the financial side of the Meyer construction business. Marlene‘s faith and spirit of service were a central part of her life. She was a longtime member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church serving on Council, as a Sunday school teacher and a member of Women’s Circle. Marlene was also a Cub Scout, Girl Scout and Brownie Troop leader, volunteer in Beloit schools, PTA member, YMCA Boys Choir and most recently volunteered at the Beloit Memorial Hospital Gift Shop. Marlene had a positive attitude, infectious smile, and deep love for her family. She had a great passion for travel, including trips to India, Thailand, Europe, the Holy Land and vacations with her SNS girlfriends. Marlene loved to entertain and host friends that included interfaith Bible Study, Bridge Club and the occasional pig roast and themed party. She and Clayton enjoyed many adventures in their motor home (UW football tailgating, attending a polka mass, cross-country skiing in Door County, and trips to Colorado). She cooked many a “shore lunch” on trips with family fishing at Eva Lake in Ontario. Her bridge group and friends gave her joy.
