Charles M. Foster, 60, of 119 Grove Street, died at 3:30 a.m. September 17, 1971 in Mercy Hospital after a long illness.

Since his discharge in 1945 from service in World War II, Mr. Foster had been employed at Ridge-Janesville Auto Parts. He was born in Beloit on July 21, 1911, and was a 1929 graduate of Beloit High School. He attended Beloit College and was employed at Harris Ace Store in Janesville until entering service on March 27, 1942. He served 21 months in North Africa and Italy as section chief of the finance office attached to the 15th Air Force Service Command and later was stationed at Portland, Oregon, at the Boeing Field finance office until his discharge on November 21, 1945. At that time he returned to Janesville and was employed until his illness at Ridge-Janesville. He was married to Ruth Guilfoyle of Evansville May 9, 1949. Mrs. Foster is s Gazette staff reporter, food and religion editor. The couple had lived in Evansville since their marriage. Mr. Foster was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, one of its electors, and a member and past president of its Holy Name Society.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth.
Service will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday in St. Paul's Church, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Allen Funeral Home where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.
