Sylvia Marie Kimberley, 75, of Madison, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 30th, 2022.

Sylvia was born to the late Jess L. and Genevieve B. (Sutter) Kimberley, December 29th, 1946 in Evansville, WI. Sylvia became a sister of St. Benedict receiving a BS in Nursing and later a MS in Psychotherapy from DePaul University, Chicago. She was a Psychiatric Nurse at Mendota Mental Health Institute. Her interest in mental health and counseling lead her to conduct group therapy sessions and Reiki treatments and evidently becoming a hospital Chaplain.

Sylvia was known for her faith, her generosity, and her joyful spirit which brought love and comfort to others. She enjoyed camping, sightseeing and entertaining others with her jokes and gimmicks. She was a competitive cribbage player who had a silly laugh and a big smile whenever she beat her brothers. She was an international traveler who loved visiting cathedrals and mostly religious sites. She saw beauty in religious art and collectables especially those heart shaped, which adorned her home. Sylvia was an active participant in the Madison Catholic Women’s Club, and a member of St. Peter Parish in Madison where she co-chaired the Helping Hands Ministry.

She is survived by her siblings, Barbara (Dale) O’Brien, Rose, Richard (Donna), Teresa and Steve. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Salome Chapin and Rita Phillips; brothers, Ray and Robert; brother-in-law, Harry Chapin; and niece, Colleen Kimberley. As an aunt and great aunt Sylvia was cherished by her many nieces, nephews and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 6, 2022 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Madison, with a visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Evansville.
